These two have seen each other through long medical school nights, are in the process of applying to residency programs, and now they are planning their wedding! Oh, and Radhika is Monica’s cousin! So to say this DC engagement session was a fun experience for us would be an understatement. We drove up for the weekend with Radhika’s parents to attend Monica and Sam’s engagement party and spend time with the family and friends who will celebrate them in May. We will be photographing their wedding and are so excited to be doing so! We’ve attended Indian weddings before, but have never photographed one, and we cannot wait to capture all of the color and festivities!
We loved being able to better get to know Sam and seeing both Monica and Sam interact together while we walked around DC monuments. These photos were taken on a mixture of digital and film, which was also thrilling for us, though waiting for the film scans is always hard. The gorgeous Fall weather, Monica’s dress (which matches her wedding colors!), and just the right amount of wind definitely didn’t hurt. But for us, the best part of our time with them had to be hearing about Monica and Sam’s wedding plans and what they are excited about in this next phase of life. They know that residency will undoubtedly be difficult, but they are looking forward to knowing that when they go home at the end of their long days, it will be to each other. We love this thought, as it is definitely how we felt after being in a long-distance relationship during our two year engagement!

We know these photos hold deeper meaning as they come at a time when our country, and especially our capitol, will be facing a great deal of change. Still, though, we cannot wait to celebrate you two even more at your wedding next spring.
