Gorgeous Wedding at the Parlour Chapel | Chapel Hill, NC | Katherine and Colby

Katherine and Colby’s wedding at the Parlour Chapel was supposed to occur in early 2020, and then later in 2020, and then in early 2021, and then…you get the idea. Luckily, it finally did, and we got to capture it in all of its beauty!

Katherine and Colby were hoping for a sunny day, a slight change from their engagement session that took place on UNC’s campus two years earlier. We were hoping for the same, especially for this sweet pup, Tucker! Luckily, the Carolina skies delivered. See some of our favorite photos from their wedding below, and then read about it from their perspective!

1. Why did you choose your wedding venue?  What was special about it to you?

We knew we wanted to have our wedding at The Parlour at Manns Chapel as soon as we saw the venue. We loved the story of how the historic country chapel was restored by two female entrepreneurs, and adored the original details that they lovingly preserved. It’s such a beautiful and classic venue, and the outdoor space was perfect for the intimate “garden party” vibe of our wedding.

2. How did you feel on your wedding day?

We were overwhelmed with excitement that it was finally here! Because of the pandemic, we unfortunately had to reschedule four times, but we were finally able to have the wedding that we wanted. Our experience over the past 18 months made us so much more appreciative of the fact that we could all gather together safely. The weather was absolutely perfect too, so it felt like that date was meant to be!

3. How would you describe the “vibe” or feeling you were going for in planning your wedding ceremony and reception?

We were going for a classic, romantic, but not super traditional, casually elegant vibe. We wanted it to be beautiful, but didn’t care much about formalities; we just wanted everyone to feel comfortable and have fun! We loved that we could have our ceremony inside the classic chapel, but then have our reception outdoors. We wanted to have a “garden party” vibe surrounded by beautiful flowers and greenery, eat a family-style meal under the twinkly lights, and dance under the stars.

4. What was your favorite moment during your wedding day?

We loved doing our first look with our dog, Tucker! It was a special moment for us to connect before the ceremony began, and helped calm our nerves. Another top moment was our final song — we all gathered arm-in-arm on the dance floor to sing along to Wagon Wheel. It was such an amazing feeling to look around and see everyone having such a great time!

5. What have your guests told you they loved about your wedding day?

Everyone had an amazing time! They all commented on the beautiful venue and details, delicious food, and amazing music. Many of our guests commented that the wedding felt very “us” which is a tribute to our wonderful vendor team who brought our vision to life. It made us so happy to see everyone laughing and smiling together — it truly was a joyful event!

6. Any reflections on photography?

We initially did not feel strongly about photography because we were more focused on prioritizing our guests’ experience; however, we quickly realized that photography is critically important in capturing those amazing memories. The day was such a blur — we are so glad Radian was there to capture every moment so we can look back on those photos that will bring us joy for many years to come. Also, Radian was so compassionate and flexible while we were navigating scheduling and rescheduling during the pandemic — it made us so grateful that we were working with such a kind-hearted team!
