Quiet Maternity Session At-Home | Durham, NC | Saranya & Nike

As film photographers based in Durham, we love when a quiet maternity session can take place in a light-filled home. Saranya and Nike are expecting their first baby girl in January, and their home was the perfect place to celebrate with a maternity session!

We love photographing in clear, serene spaces and this home was no exception. A clutter-free space allows the camera to really focus on the subject that is most important: you.

Saranya and Nike’s home was so thoughtfully curated and we can tell that their daughter is going to grow up in such a peaceful space. Our favorite feature, by far, was the custom-built concrete coffee table that Nike designed himself. He worked with a company to create a table that literally allows bonsai plants and succulents to grow in the middle of it. What an amazing statement! We couldn’t help but use it in one of our signature double exposures and were so pleased to find that Saranya loved it as much as we did when she saw it.

We continued their session upstairs in their minimalist bedroom which also receives great light during the day. The photos of Saranya on their bed are probably our favorites from the session.

Nike and Saranya, thank you so much for contacting us to photograph your maternity session. Your home is stunning and we can tell by how thoughtful you are with each detail that you’re going to be great parents to Avera. We cannot wait to meet her soon!

Film spotlight

For our film fans out there, this was shot on Portra 800 and Delta 3200 and developed by The FIND Lab! We love these for indoor sessions — but be careful! Even though they seem to be higher ISO films, they aren’t truly 800 or 3200 speed films. We recommend rating Portra 800 between 200 and 400 and Delta 3200 at 1000. Both look great pushed one stop if you like contrast!
