In the midst of far-too-many cold, cloudy, and rainy weekends, we were so grateful to have a bright sunny day for David and Marie’s engagement session at J.C. Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh. Our favorite part about this place is seeing how it transforms throughout the year, with each season offering its own unique colors and light. This time around, we found our favorite winter light—crystal clear, yet subdued—with some beautiful winter flowers and late fall colors.
David and Marie are getting married in New York, which has been an adventure in long-distance planning for them, so they opted to make engagement photos easier and have them done near their home in North Carolina. They met each other and started dating during the fall of their freshmen year of college at Cornell. Since then they graduated, Marie enrolled in a psychology program at UNC, and David followed her down south, leaving behind their families in New York and Rhode Island.
Engagement sessions, and couple’s sessions in general, give us as photographers a lovely glimpse into the subtle ways that couples interact. The comfort they show as they spend slightly too much time with their faces inches apart can only come from countless hours spent in each other’s company. David and Marie have been together a long time, and it was such a pleasure to be around a couple that knows each other so well. They seemed completely in sync, easily pushing through those early-session jitters and just enjoying the time they set aside to be close and celebrate their relationship and upcoming marriage. But don’t take our word for it, just check out their photos!
Marie and David, we’re so glad that you decided to opt for engagement photos in North Carolina, even despite the chilly weather! We hope you love these sneak peeks as much as we do and can’t wait to show you the rest soon!
