I’ve known Ashley since 2008, when we first worked together at the best little nonprofit in the world, Student U. It’s been such a joy to see her become a mom just before Everest was born, and now to see her as a mother of two!
This session was photographed in Ashley’s family’s home in Durham, NC and included James’s older sister, Charlotte! She was such a big help during the session — making sure James stayed warm and covering him with her blanket, and practicing caring for her own “baby” doll! James was a super calm baby during the whole session and was just content to be held by his parents and sister.
As we’ve seen with LOTS of homes in North Carolina, they can be dark, especially if you have lots of mature trees in your yard! We stayed by the window for the majority of this session, which was just fine by me! Don’t be afraid of your dark house — a photographer knows how to make it work!
I’m a natural light photographer, so will still most likely want to turn off all of the lights in the rooms where we are photographing. But if there are certain rooms that you love that are dark, we can always turn on the lights and convert the photos to black and white like we did with the first one in this set! Don’t you love black and white newborn photos?!
Ashley and Anthony, thanks so much for trusting me to document these photos of baby James! He is such a cutie and I can’t wait to see him grow up with Charlotte!
