There’s no doubt about it: the land of pasta, Chianti, and espresso would be on the top of our list if we had to plan a destination wedding today. Everywhere in Italy that we have been fortunate enough to visit has been beautiful, but our new favorite is Florence. Travel with us as we share our experiences visiting three lovely wedding venues that would be ideal for a destination wedding with your nearest and dearest.
Villa Le Fontanelle
Minutes from the heart of Florence is a stunning four star estate that has panoramic views overlooking the city. This is Villa Le Fontanelle, originally a countryside residence built by the historic Medici family. We were able to visit and shoot an editorial with Caterina Weddings, a local Tuscan wedding planner whose work we adore. We loved exploring all of the beautiful nooks and private corners of this venue — it would be the perfect location to have friends and family enjoy Tuscan views as you dine al fresco. If visiting Florence, you can also stop by for a delicious meal at their new restaurant. View the Super 8 film we made while there. Villa Medicea di Lilliano
Tucked among the hills surrounding Florence is one of the gorgeous villas built by the Medici family. Here, you will not only be able to enjoy beautiful Florentine architecture and terrain, but also the wine made at the Malenchini estate. While visiting, we saw a wedding reception in process of set up and we couldn’t help but be envious of the guests who would be dining under the stars that evening. The Villa Medicea di Lilliano was built in the 1800s, but today you are welcome to host your destination wedding in Italy or stay for a few nights. We hope to return soon to photograph an event here in the historic gardens.
Villa La Fonte
We were lucky enough to photograph a wedding at Villa La Fonte, minutes from the heart of Florence, while visiting Italy this year. As destination wedding photographers, we couldn’t have chosen a more beautiful location in Florence for the wedding. The villa sleeps sixteen guests and has a heated pool, fully equipped kitchen, and gorgeous views of the hillsides. Olivia Magris and her team did a stellar job putting together this beautiful event for Valerie and Mark, proving that destination weddings in Florence, Italy can be both intimate and lively.
