Travel Tips from Charleston Film Photographers

One of the most amazing things we got to do this spring was travel to Charleston…twice! Despite this gorgeous city only being a few hours away from home, we have never visited together. We traveled there in childhood with our families, but were excited to explore together over two wedding weekends. Read on to hear some of our tips if you plan on going to Charleston soon!

Charleston was absolutely stunning. Between our two weekends, we saw two completely different sides of the city — the first was hot and humid, and the second was cool and breezy. We took many of these photographs on film on Rainbow Row, Battery Park, and Magnolia Grove, but also got to eat tons of great food and even did a little shopping!

Are you headed to Charleston soon? Here are some of our top tips for a fun getaway!

Pack comfortable shoes…

…because you’re going to be walking! Charleston is such a beautiful city on foot. Whether you’re walking around Rainbow Row to look at the lovely, colorful houses or shopping on King Street, you’re going to get so much more out of your experience if you get to walk around because there is so much to see!

Rainbow Row definitely had our hearts, and most of the images on this post are from there. We absolutely loved getting to see all of the color on this street, and the flowers blooming did not disappoint! In our opinion, Charleston looks perfect on film.

Leave room for brunch!

We found two favorite brunch spots while in Charleston and went to both twice! The Park Cafe has the best Saturday morning vibes. With indoor seating that’s filled with greenery and an outdoor patio area for nice weather, it’s the perfect place to spend an hour to start out your weekend. Plus, one of their specialty lattes comes with a crème brûléed lavender marshmallow, and we all know that that settles it for Radhika! The other spot we went to was perfect for wedding recovery on Sunday mornings. Five Loaves Cafe has an awesome menu, but they also have a juice bar, so we found ourselves rehydrating on water, coffee, and a delicious fresh juice on Sunday mornings!

Get outta town!

Charleston itself is an amazing city, but there are lots of little nooks just around it that are equally as beautiful to visit! While in Charleston, we visited the Angel Oak which is estimated to be around 500 years old. We also went to Magnolia Grove Plantation. Though obviously rife with a complicated and painful history, we learned a lot from being there and the owners have done a lot to make sure the site has educational opportunities. If you’re into a playful day in the sand, though, there’s always Folly Beach! We didn’t get to visit while in Charleston, but we hope to go back some day!
