Monica and Sam planned an incredible wedding this past weekend in Chantilly, Virginia. Though the weather was cooler than expected in May, the space they created for 250 of their closest family and friends was so inviting that I don’t think anyone noticed!
This wedding was so special to us because Monica is Radhika’s cousin. Though we have only known Sam for a short time and got to see them together at their engagement session last fall, we can tell that they have a beautiful relationship. When we asked Monica what she loves most about Sam, she said, “He inspires me daily to be the best version of myself,” while Sam said, “Her perfect balance of fierce intellectualism and loving nature.” Even their wedding vows to each other, written separately, included their promise to each other that their love would change the world. We don’t think we were the only ones who teared up during the ceremony!
Aside from all of the gorgeous colors and merriment, we had several parts of the day that stood out as our favorites! The first was the baraat, the traditional ceremony where the groom arrives and the families of both parties greet each other. Monica and Sam’s huge bridal party, friends, and relatives all danced outside to the beat of the dhol (drum).
The ceremony was followed by a cocktail hour when we did portraits of family members, the bridal party, and Monica and Sam — and then they changed into equally gorgeous outfits for the reception! The toasts, delivered by the parents of the bride and groom, the best man, Steve, and Monica’s sister, Julie, were all amazing. Heartfelt and emotional, we couldn’t have imagined sweeter words to unite so many guests who all arrived from different walks of life to celebrate Monica and Sam. The reception turned into a gigantic party after first dances and cake cutting, and we are sure that everyone in the room felt confident that Monica and Sam achieved their goal of hosting a celebration that brought together friends and family over good food, good wine, and good conversation.
We are so glad that we were able to celebrate with you two! Thank you for allowing us to document your beautiful day! We love you!
Thank you to all of the wonderful vendors and artists who worked on this wedding! You all did beautiful work!
