This weekend, we traveled to Carolina Beach for a little rest, relaxation, and…rip currents? Maybe not that last one, but that’s what we got! We enjoyed a little beach time on Saturday, but were really excited to spend some time in Southport and Wilmington. We’ve been to both dozens of times, but since shooting at the Studio last month (blog post coming soon!), we’ve been on the lookout for some gorgeous antiques to use when styling detail shots at weddings. The Greenhouse Picker Sisters have such an amazing selection and they really helped us step up our photos (no really, we’ll show you what we’re talking about soon). We’ve gone to all of the antique shops and looked around before, but it’s such a different adventure completely when you are on the lookout for that special piece!
We came home with so many treasures, but there were many other highlights to our trip as well.
- We got to stay with Ian’s aunt Becky and uncle Jim. They are the best hosts and we love spending time with them. On our last morning, we sat on the porch drinking coffee, and Becky came out with a gardenia in hand from her garden for us. Have you ever smelled one? They are incredible.
- We got to eat so much good food! From fresh seafood at Provision Company in Southport to Britt’s Donuts on the boardwalk at Carolina Beach to an amazing lavender and honey mousse at the new Rx Restaurant and Bar in Wilmington to dozens and dozens of different flavors of salt water taffy…let’s just say our bellies are happy.
- Did we mention all of those fun antique stores?
- The hydrangeas are in bloom and they were all over the place! As was Spanish moss. That stuff is so beautiful!
One last fun fact: These photos were shot almost exclusively with an iPhone. For people who can’t imagine traveling without a DSLR, this is HUGE! Will we ever plan a big trip without it? Probably not. But we’re still really happy with how these came out. Can you spot the photos that weren’t taken with an iPhone? 🙂
What are some of your favorite spots on the coast of North Carolina? We can’t wait to go back later this summer!
