We love lifestyle sessions based around activities and places, especially when we get to photograph couples in their home. We love witnessing the ways that couples live together: the cute nicknames, the inside jokes, the fridge reminders. We feel lucky to be invited into such an intimate space and cherish the opportunity to capture that space and the relationship that has turned it into a home.
We pulled up to Amy and Richard’s home, tucked away among the trees in Mebane, NC. It was a dreary January day, but we walked into a cozy home full of beautiful art, a dining table they tiled themselves, and a feisty but lovable dog named Loki. We could instantly feel the life that they were making together and were excited to try to capture it during their engagement session.
We started inside with Amy and Richard cuddling on the couch. They invited Loki to join them and even though he was a bit apprehensive about the strangers in his home, he quickly looked at home with them, putting on a big smile as he got his head scratched and his belly rubbed.
For the second half of the session we made our way to a nearby tree farm with golden, tall grass backed by bright green evergreens. It was the perfect outside spot, despite the near-drizzle coming from the sky, to photograph some engagement portraits. Amy and Richard were naturals, falling into place together and genuinely enjoying the time they got to spend in each others’ arms.
What we love about lifestyle and engagement sessions with couples isn’t just the chance to photograph them, it’s the opportunity to get to experience their love, to witness the power of their relationship. We are so excited to photograph Amy and Richard’s wedding in June and to be there as they make their love and lives together official.
P.S. Thank you Amy for the soap sacks–so nifty!
