The Moore Family had a session at the American Tobacco Campus this summer, and we got to explore the area with them. Here are 5 of our favorite spots to photograph there!
Earlier this year, we participated in an auction with Still We Rise that benefitted organizations supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, like the Equal Justice Initiative, M4BL, and The Bail Project.
Kristin is also a talented photographer and I have been Instagram friends for a little while, and it was only time before our paths crossed! We were so excited when she bid on a mini session with us and we knew we would get to meet and work with her family. When she was in town this August and explored the American Tobacco Campus with her family, she found it mostly empty due to COVID, so we thought it would be the perfect spot for an afternoon family session. Check out some of our images and favorite spots for photos at the American Tobacco Campus below!
1. The Entrance (Mellow Mushroom)
We love meeting clients at this entrance because there’s a parking deck that is easy to access and free on the evenings. We love the lights in the background, which look good from either direction!
2. The Lawn
Thanks to the beautiful trees, there are plenty of spots on the lawn for some shady photos, perfect for seated photos or, if you’re the Moore kids, running around your parents!
3. The Water Tower
A quintessential symbol of Durham, the water tower at ATC makes for a great background for photos. To capture the full thing, you will likely need a very wide lens, but we love how these turned out. Bonus: this also makes a perfect spot for twirling!
4. The Stairs
Continue walking past the water tower and towards the stairs and you’ll find sweet vignettes on either side, or you can have fun playing on the stairs themselves, as we did! We also made sure to turn around and grab a shot of Kristin and Dan with the tower behind them!
5. The Back
Keep going up the stairs and you will find more areas for play! We love turning around and getting images that show the water tower from the back. In this case, we just had lots of fun capturing the kiddos doing what they do best: playing!
Kristin, we’re so thankful that we got to meet and work with your family at the American Tobacco Campus! Thank you for bidding on us during the Still We Rise auction. I hope we get to see you again soon!
