From the beginning of our time in the wedding industry, it has been really clear to us that having a wedding planner is essential to a wedding day going smoothly. That’s why we asked our friends at Amanda Blair By Design what they wish you knew about working with a Raleigh wedding planner on your wedding day. The relationship you create with your wedding planner, and I chose the word relationship very intentionally, is one that you should trust and feel utterly confident in. Your planner will be your guide, your support, and your design partner. They will be with you every step of the way as you prepare for one of the biggest and BEST days of your life.
As Wedding Planners, we chose this profession for the love of serving, as we are truly helpers at heart. Most are type A’s which means we have a place for everything and everything should be in its place. We have a plan for a plan for a plan and often go to bed thinking about all the details of your big day.
So what is it that we wish you knew? I have put together a list of 5 Things Your Wedding Planner Wish You Knew. Although I could create a list of 100, I picked the top 5 that would be most helpful to both you, your partner, and your planner.
Hire Your Wedding Planner Early
After you pick the beautiful venue (or bonus points if you book us before) where you get to marry the love of your life,, hire your wedding planner. Making this huge decision earlier rather than later can save you so much time and money. We are experts in this industry. We have relationships with vendors and so much knowledge that we would love to share with you. Take advantage of our years of expertise and honing our craft. As we get to know each other, we will be able to steer you in all the right directions whether that be choosing a stellar vendor team, designing your dream day, or the random questions we get texted at 8pm, let us help you!
Your Raleigh Wedding Planner Is On Your Side
You picked us, that means we work for you. Although we strive to honor everyone’s interests, yours is the most important to us! You and I are a team and should work like one. However, we also ask that you trust our expertise. We do this job every single day, so we know very quickly if a layout you like is or is not going to work with your large guest count. We know when the sun rises and sun sets and when to get those perfect golden hour pictures and how to create your timeline for the season you are getting married in. There are so many skills we have picked up along the way that will help your day go as smoothly as possible. Just when you think you may not be able to afford a planner, we say “you can’t afford not to”. We promise, it will be the best money you spend!
Utilize the Expertise of the Vendors You Chose
All of the skills we and your vendor team have, will work to your advantage if you trust us. We say this a lot: “This is where you have to trust us”. Sometimes it is extremely hard to relinquish control of a day you care so much about and are spending your hard-earned money on. But when you let go and trust, beautiful things can happen. This is also why picking a professional, well-established vendor team is crucial. Your vendor team is critical to the success of a seamless day.
We have a preferred vendor list that we share with clients right away. Most Raleigh wedding venues also have a list and it is extremely important to look at both of them and start making your inquiries from there.
Communicate, Communicate, Communicate
This is so important! If you are new to wedding planning and whether or not you have picked your planner yet, get ready to send many emails. It is so important that you communicate with us. When we send emails, we love timely responses and we will do the same for you. Besides communicating via email, we also appreciate when you feel comfortable sharing some hard truths with us, we can handle it. We want to know about your vision, family dynamics, your dreams, your absolute “do not have at my wedding items”, that song that will make you cringe if the DJ plays it, we want to know it all. This helps us paint a clear picture of what your dream is. From there we can make that vision a reality!
Respect your budget and always keep it in mind
Trust us when we say we have worked with every budget and varying guest count. Whether that be a smaller budget or a robust one, we use our expertise to connect you with the vendors that will be suitable for your budget and your style. In this industry there will always be more — more details, more flowers, more cocktails but we try to always be mindful of your target budget. It sometimes helps to pick two or three areas that are most important to you, such as flowers, your dress and your band or DJ. Knowing your priorities can help tremendously when crafting your budget.
Your wedding day is such a special day and one you will look back on so often. The memories you make that day should be some of the best in your life. Following these steps will help ensure your wedding goes as planned. Yes, small things will happen, they always do, but it is our job to transition seamlessly through any obstacles. Remember you do not have to make these big decisions alone. We are always here to help, to guide and to listen.
